UAC 2008 Silent Auction:
Information and Guidelines

What is a Silent Auction?

There is no auctoneer. Rather, bids are written on a sheet of paper and, at the end of the auction, the highest listed bidder wins the item. A silent auction is commonly used in charity events as many items are auctioned simultaneously. Bidders may bid on one or multiple items.

Categories

U - Universal, Uranian, Unique, Unusual, Un-Bali-vable, Undeniably Fabulous!
A - Art, Apparel , Accessories & Jewelry, Antiques, Astrological, Autographs, and Anything Absolutely Over The Top!
C - Consultations, Classes, Conferences, Computer Software, CDs, and Cash!

Bidding

  • Each item has a bid sheet listing the item description, the assigned item number, minimum starting bid, minimum increment, with a place to write in your name, contact information and bid amount.
  • Bids should be in whole dollar amounts and must equal or exceed the minimum starting bid. Successive bids must exceed the previous bid by the minimum increment stated on the bid sheet. (Example: If the minimum starting bid is $5.00 and increments are $2.00, then first bid must be at least $5.00 and the second bid must be at least $7.00.)
  • Bids below the minimum starting bid or less than the minimum increment will not be accepted.
  • Each new bid must be legibly printed on the next blank line available. Illegible bids will not be valid.
  • A bidder may change his mind and cross out his bid before auction close.
  • If possible, an announcement will be made at 10 minutes and 5 minutes before the closing of the auction. The auction coordinator shall maintain the official time and shall have the ultimate and exclusive authority to close the auction.
  • Bidders may not block others from viewing the bid sheet or making bids.
  • Bid sheets may not be removed except by an auction official.
  • The closing bid, circled by an auction official, constitutes the winning bid and a commitment to purchase.
  • In the event of any dispute, the auction coordinator shall have the sole discretion to determine the winning bidder.

Claiming Your Item
